Mujus

Monday, July 27, 2015

I may still be impartial to Faire Collection, as I have blogged about them for the past few years (formerly known as Andean collection). You may remember in this post and in this post.

However, I was introduced to Mujus, (pronounced Moo-hoos) who offers a fair competition and is based locally in New York City. They too, work with quality, organic and sustainable raw materials. Mujus creates beautiful works of art in the form of jewelry using Amazonian seeds (mainly Tagua seeds). Because of that, each stone is unique - you can clearly see the skilled workmanship that goes behind these creations. Mujus' name literally means "seed" in Quechua, the ancient language of Peru. What's even better is that Mujus also gives back. They pay fair wages and provide health insurance to Mujus artisans in Lima. In the US, they do collaborate with the ALS Association in designing a special collection where a percentage of each sale goes directly to them.

I was gifted this Sansa necklace to try out, its design was inspired by the Game of Thrones character - therefore, giving its name. Mujus offers a large palette of brilliant colors to choose from, but I wanted to keep mine simple - something that would go with many outfits. I was tempted to get it in black, but felt the ivory showed more of the Tagua seed detail and is definitely more of a conversation starter. The stones were smooth and lightweight, so it didn't feel like it hanging onto my neck. It has a fun layering design, which is not something I often do - but it was a pleasant change.

Not only jewelry, Mujus utilizes the seeds to offer cuff links, brooches, keychains, and even playful styles for kids. Can be paired with other looks, especially from StyleWe.com.

What do you think of jewelry made from Tagua seeds?
