Sunday Flowers: Plumeria

Sunday, February 06, 2011

With all of the snow and ice that passed through lately, I think it's about time I resume to my Sunday Flowers series to brighten things up! I was browsing around online for pretty flowers and I stumbled onto the Plumeria. It looks gorgeous and in such beautiful mixes of hues. I like how it looks like the colors were painted on. Each color has their own fragrance! It can smell like citrus, peaches, or jasmine.

It's a tropical plant, native to places like Hawaii, Central America, South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and more.

In different cultures, they mean different things:
In the Pacific islands (such as Hawaii, Fiji, Tahiti, etc.) use these flowers for leis & also worn in women's hair to indicate relationship status.
In Southern Asia, local folk believe they provide shelter for ghosts & spirits; They're associated with vampires in Malay culture.
In Sri Lankan culture, the flowers are associated with worship.
I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend!
Will anyone be watching the Superbowl tonight?
I'll be watching for the commercials! :)
