The Village Barbershop

Saturday, December 11, 2010

The Village Barbershop, released in 2008, is a quirky, indie film about a man who recently lost his friend & business partner due to death. Struggling to keep his barber shop and only source of income, he reluctantly hires a young woman who is also struggling in her own personal life. They work together & booms the business.

There were a lot of ups and downs in this movie, and while the story could be quite predictable, the characters were just too lovable not to like. The director portrayed the story in a different way and was enjoyable to watch. Shelly Cole who plays the female barber, Gloria MacIntyre, reminded me somewhat of Ellen Page - they both exude that witty, sarcastic vibe. (Although Ellen is definitely more sarcastic and Shelly Cole had a side role in Gilmore Girls - I didn't even recognize her).

The movie also stars John Ratzenberger, Laurellee Westaway, and Cindy Pickett.

"a quirky, indie film"... You got my attention way at that spot!

Movies - sweet experiences. The chance to indulge. To ponder, on the pics as well as passingly on you.

Thanks for saying kind things about my film. It was made on a shoestring and took Herculean effort to just get shot, let alone finished and distributed out into the world.

You had me at the title..It's always fun to get a tip on an otherwise low key and perhaps under the radar movie. Usually we all get 'bombarded' with the Latest Releases and missing out on those hidden gems! So thanks for sharing! Also, wanted to wish you a great-sparkly New Year and Christmas (with all on your wish list):-)Big Hugs! Alice
