Lunar Eclipse

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

The lunar eclipse occurred on Winter Solstice this past Monday night/Tuesday morning (depending on your time zone). For me in New York, it started around 1:30AM on Tuesday. Lunar eclipses happen every so often but to fall on Winter Solstice is a rare occasion. The last time it happened was over 3 centuries ago. The next one on a Winter Solstice will be 2094.

I snuggled with my boyfriend and we watched it happen. We also watched it until it turned red. It was beautiful, and it happened faster than I expected. It ended after a couple of hours before it started to show the bright moon again.
Images were taken from the Washington Post.

Did anyone else see it?
