Paris 36

Friday, November 05, 2010

I recently watched a French film called Paris 36. It's a bit of a musical, and it portrays the story about a theatre in Paris in 1936. This movie was released in 2008.

It dealt with fascism in those times, and the beloved theatre was taken over. A group of friends hope to revive it back to life and take it back.

It's synopsis from Netflix: "When a neighborhood music hall closes down, a trio of unemployed friends (GĂ©rard Jugnot, Clovis Cornillac and Kad Merad) vow to bring the business back from the dead by staging a musical they hope will be a hit. If their gamble pays off, they'll have the money to buy the theater for themselves -- and the power to control their own destinies. Christophe Barratier directs this Berlin Film Festival selection set in 1930s Paris."
I personally thought it dragged on a bit in the beginning but it's a sweet story if you decide to watch it in its entirety. There's romance, music, suspense, and drama all wrapped up in this film. It reminded me a bit of Moulin Rouge. Plus I thought it was more enchanting because the entire film was in French; it gave it a certain flair to it.

It reminds me a lil of the movie Chicago! I wonder how they did the shots in Paris so I'd give it a whirl if I catch it on tv! French? Maybe on IFC or something.

I'm not a fan of musicals other than broadway shows... but not on TV or movies... if I could I'd fast forward all the singing on Glee... cuz it actually has a good storyline! LOL i'm weird like that
