FIFA: World Cup Soccer 2010

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

If you haven't been bitten by the World Cup fever bug yet, get ready to indulge! I've been following for awhile. My dad used to play soccer when he was younger & got into college with a soccer scholarship so I'm loving this tournament growing up knowing soccer. (Besides all the tennis ones of course - can't wait to see the US Open here in New York.)

Anyway, the last World Cup in 2006, Italy won by penalty kick. I'm wondering if they can win again. There's also Brazil - they're cocky, but they do have talent. They do extremely well working together & in passing the ball to each other. And also, Germany! They slaughtered Australia the other day, 4-0!
Then, there's France who went to the final game in 2006 against Italy. They also have a pretty good chance at getting there again.
Of course, being an American, I have to root for USA. I don't think they'll win, but I'm hoping they get pretty far in the World Cup. Howard is a pretty good goalie.

Lastly, but most definitely not least, I love watching Portugal play. Why? Look below. Need I say more? ;) Cristiano Ronaldo is so hot. And you have to admit, their team is pretty talented too, haha.

Who are you all rooting for? ;)

P.S. Did anyone in NYC go to the free Drake concert last night? I was going to, and luckily I decided last minute not to because I heard it was already crowded. Apparently it got shut down from a bunch of riots happening within the crowd.

I'm just hoping France don't do well, as it was Theirry Henry's handball that stopped Ireland getting in! Even though I live in England I don't usually support them, I think I'll be rooting for Germany (I went there on holiday last year) or Greece (I'm going there this summer!) Perhaps silly reasons but the year Italy won I'd been there on a trip so I tend to support teams that way! xx

I'm not that into soccer, even though my hubby is a big fan played throughout school and college. I'm just more interested in the eye candy!

England, of course!! Mind you, I'm addicted to the World Cup and have yet to miss a game. The UK comes to a standstill when it's on.

I'm with you - rooting for the US but not sure how far they'll get.

My husband subscribed to the World Cup cable package so we've been able to keep up best we can.

Ooh the Drake concert sounded great, but a free concert = total potential for craziness.

Of course I'm hoping Italy can repeat, but they'll have to step it up if they want to. It seems to be their strategy to always start slow, they just need to remember to hit the gas when the time comes.

Going in I thought the favourites would be Argentina and Brazil. Both have many players who play on the European team I follow (Inter Milan) who just had stellar years. Lots of talent on both teams.

England has issues, but they also have a great coach and I think he could really make a difference for them if they can solve the goaltending situation. Germany is always a talented and efficient team but--unlike Italy--they usually start strong and peter out.

I think Holland, Spain and Portugal round out the real contenders. It's exciting to watch all the games and see how things pan out--with only seven games needed to win anything can happen!

I love soccer. I used to be goalie and got to wear the special shirt and everything. I was 6.

I have been watching most of the games with my boyfriend. His brother plays on the Dallas team, so his family is obsessed with the sport. Lol.

And yeah, pretty much all soccer guys are total hunks, especially Ronoldo. YUMMY!! My favorite part of the game is when the guys all take off their shirts in celebration. DROOL.

I adore the world cup. I've been watching soccer (football) since I was a little kid and can't get enough of it. My family and I usually cheer for England, but since Zidane was in the world cup last time and the time before, we cheered for France (I adored him!) I may cheer for France again if they can pick up their game; they've been slacking! Germany is amazing so my allegance may be to them and England this time around!

Am not keen on football, but I do hope the best team wins;-)

Ooh no, Ronaldo is an overtanned petulant little child. Can't bear him! I miss Paolo Maldini - now he was a beauty!

I'm just enjoying the football. I can't watch them all because of work but I'm listening on the radio to the ones I can't see and obsessively watching catchup programmes, despite the overall standard being pretty dire so far.
