Just Wright

Monday, May 03, 2010

This past weekend, I was invited to a press screening of Just Wright - which hits theaters on May 14. It stars Queen Latifah, Common, and Paula Patton. Phylicia Rashad also appears in the movie.

It's synopsis is, "Leslie Wright (Queen Latifah) is a straight-shooting physical therapist who gets the gig of a lifetime working with NBA All-Star Scott McKnight (Common). All is going well until Leslie finds herself falling for Scott, forcing her to choose between the gig and the tug-of-war inside her heart. Oblivious to her romantic overtures, McKnight is instead drawn to the affections of Leslie's childhood friend Morgan (Paula Patton), who has her sights set on being an NBA trophy wife. Is Leslie destined to play the role of "best friend" forever or will Scott finally see that what he always wanted is right in front of him?" (written by Fox SearchLight Pictures)
Overall, I thought it was an okay movie. It had its funny parts. I adore Queen Latifah and I thought Common did a good job acting, since I'm more familiar with him as a musical artist (He also appears in Date Night which is out right now). However, I felt as though the story plot was predictable, tittering on the borderline of being cheesy. Even the title already gives it away.

*Please note: This was a press screening I attended so it's the unfinished version and there may be possible changes to it before it is released in theaters.

Hmm...Can we guess the ending? I love Common as a musician and Mom loves Queen Latifah, so I'm pretty sure I'll end up seeing it.

I posted about this when I first saw the trailer and I knew it would probably be the same story line that we've seen time and time again, but because I adore both Common (I'd stalk him if I was capable lol Chicago is so big IDK where to start) and Queen Latifah.

I appreciate your honest feedback of the press screening! That's awesome to get invited to such!

It does sound a little cheesy and predictable, but sometimes those are the greatest. Super exciting that you get to go to press screenings!

I've never even heard of this film before; though I can't really say that it sounds interesting to me. I don't know...lately I find far too many movie plots to be predictable and unoriginal. :/

I used to be into chick flicks, but lately not so much.

I might see this, not sure. Thanks for the review.

These kind of movies are always predictable, but that's what makes them so comforting sometimes! I think I'll check it out because I love the Queen!

I'm not surprised it was predictable, most chic flicks are. I do like that the female character isn't stereotypical thin and that she was paired with a thin male - you rarely see this. Queen is awesome!

Girl, I'm so glad for the review! I was anxious to see it but now may wait until it's on video. I love both of these actors but I can definately see why it was predictable. Sadly, many love story movies are ;-)
