Waking Sleeping Beauty

Saturday, March 27, 2010

I was having a wonderful coffee chat with my friend Kirsten at Thompson Cafe when she invited me along to see Waking Sleeping Beauty with two of her other friends, Enrique & Alex. It's a documentary about Disney, and what the company was like throughout this process of making some of your favorite beloved animated films. It demonstrated how Disney "regained its magic", overcoming its hard times during the mid 1980s. There was even an appearance of a young Tim Burton.

It was quite entertaining, and film-wise, it was beautifully made. It portrayed true emotion, entertainment, and great insight. It made you really appreciate those classic Disney movies even more.
To top off a great film, we were treated with an appearance by the producer, Peter Schneider, as well as the screenplay writer, Patrick Pacheco. Both men participated in a Q&A session with our audience, and it was interesting to hear both of them speak about their thought process and how they put the film together.

I definitely recommend seeing this wherever you can.

That is a wonderful experience to have the Q&A. I read and article in Vogue about the cartoonists (mostly women) and their work with Disney in the early years. It was so fascinating!
