Valentino: The Last Emperor

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Last weekend I finally got a chance to see Valentino: The Last Emperor, a documentary of Valentino's 70th birthday to his last couture show. In many ways he is like Karl Lagerfeld, not being able to trust many people and having a tight knit circle. In addition, both men are so talented & their ideas are amazing. The ideas simply flow from their brains to paper. Like Lagerfeld, Valentino doesn't physically make his clothes but he does put a lot of input. Although it is obvious that Valentino does know how to sew and drape.

He does seem a lot friendlier and more open than Lagerfeld is though. I still can't believe Valentino retired; he definitely will be missed in the fashion couture world.

I think Lagerfeld comes off as more...domineering, perhaps...due to the fact that he's always wearing those gloves and those Terminator-style sunglasses. Nevertheless I adore him. Though I will miss Valentino. :(
